This Week in Backgrounds: Acquisitions, Awards and Innovation

Looks like background screeners have been busy this week, more so than in previous weeks.  Sterling Talent Solutions finally relaunched their small business offering, Global HR Research acquired easyBackgrounds, Accurate Background earned a big honor, and InfoMart launched driver qualification monitoring.

Let’s begin with Sterling.  This has been in the works for a long time, but it appears they have finally launched their small business offering, SterlingNow.  I got a demo of this at this past SHRM conference and all I can say is that I was very impressed.  No single company has ever seemed to own the small business space and there are a lot of reasons for that.  First and foremost, most don’t want to focus on that market.  It’s expensive to operate with little return, unless you can really scale up the sales and marketing.  Sterling seems to have put a lot into this product and from the looks of it they have a winner.  The small business market is tough; the portal must be intuitive and customers must be served in an efficient manner, I’m excited to see what comes of this in the future.

Global HR Research has acquired a nice company with some great leadership.  easyBackgrounds was started over 15 years ago by my good friend Brian McElwee and his wife Quinn.  It looks like they had an epiphany this year while hiking the Appalachian Trail and decided to sell the business to Global HR Research.  I haven’t talked to Brian yet, but I can imagine they are very excited to move on to the next chapter of their lives.  Congrats guys!!

Accurate Background, one of the most innovative companies in the industry, has been named to the Inc. 5000 hall of fame.  It is a pretty cool honor to be recognized on a high growth list for five consecutive years.  Accurate is a great company with solid leadership and an impressive client base.  Even more exciting than that is their ability to innovate.  Accurate was one of the first companies to publish an API and hit the sharing economy marketplace full force.  I hear nothing but positive things about Accurate and you will continue to in the future.

Lastly, InfoMart launched their new Driver Qualification (DQ File) service.  Now, in addition to the comprehensive background check services they have delivered to companies of all sizes for nearly 30 years, InfoMart provides a single-source solution for fleet management by adding driver qualification files and driver monitoring to their impressive roster of services.  These services are essential components of any company’s risk mitigation strategy and InfoMart’s enhanced fleet management tool integrates the process into a company’s background check protocols. In partnership with J. J. Keller, InfoMart helps their clients establish, organize, and maintain FMCSA driver documentation, warn fleet managers of impending license expirations, and provide support in the event of an audit.

Well that’s it for TWIB (a nod to you baseball fans) this time, I think we will continue to see exciting things out of this industry in the coming months, stay tuned!!  If you want to know more about my thoughts on the industry and the future lets plan on meeting at the NAPBS show, hit me up and lets have a drink.

Best,

Jason
